USAHA News United States Animal Health Association Contact - Larry Mark - (703) 451-3954 - webmaster@usaha.org For immediate release: ARIZONA VETERINARIAN TO HEAD USAHA GREENSBORO, N.C., Oct. 27, 2004 -- Dr. Rick Willer, Arizona State Veterinarian, was elected president of the United States Animal Health Association (USAHA) at its 108th annual meeting here this week. USAHA is an organization of state and federal animal health officials, practicing veterinarians, research scientists and livestock producers. More than 1,200 people -- a record number for the third consecutive year -- attended this year’s week-long conference, held in conjunction with the annual meeting of the American Association of Veterinary Diagnosticians (AAVLD), to discuss issues related to the health of farm livestock, wildlife, poultry and fish. Animal disease surveillance and international trade in animals and animal products were featured topics at this year’s general sessions. President-elect of USAHA is Dr. Bret March, Indiana State Veterinarian. Other officers are Dr. Lee M. Meyers, Georgia State Veterinarian, first vice-president; James Leafstedt, South Dakota pork producer, second vice-president; Dr. Don Hoenig, Maine State Veterinarian, third vice-president; Dr. Jones Bryan, retired South Carolina State Veterinarian, treasurer; and Dr. J Lee Alley, retired Alabama State Veterinarian, secretary. Regional delegates are Dr. R.J. Eckroade of Pennsylvania and Dr. Ernie Zirkle of New Jersey for the Northeast; Velmar Green of Michigan and James Lewis of Minnesota for the North Central; Dr. Wayne Godwin of Florida and Greg Rosales of Alabama for the South; and Dr. Cal Lum of Hawaii and William Sauble of New Mexico for the West. ###
